Explanation:

Sealab 2012 are one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time. Sure, that statement is a little exaggerative, but I mean it. There are only a handful of producers who even have a similar tropical and upbeat style to that Sealab does.

I would also wager had their pages remained stable and the duo made it through their disputes they would be recognized as one of the best by now.

To add on to it, I have been contacted several times for Sealab's stuff. During their dark period (2018-2020) a lot of people were asking for what I had on them. People would find the remnants of their beats and start seeking it out. There happened at least 10 times with people eventually finding me. And even in the deleted stuff they've still managed to amass

Some of their songs have hundreds of thousands of views too.

But I'm getting too far ahead of myself. Let's start from the beginning.

Sealab 2012 is a beat-making duo consisting of NLK and Riot Rhythm. Their Bandcamp once listed them as from Thailand, though that's been confirmed to be false. They're actually based out of the Hartland Township, out in Michigan.

In 2012 they started dumping beats and tapes on their Bandcamp page which remained in-tact until about 2018 when they broke up and deleted everything. Since then members went solo, re-united, split up, deleted, changed names, put stuff on streaming, took it off streaming, re-released old stuff but at a different tempo and then vanished again. As of right now they don't have any profile up and their last release was under the name DJ Tranquilo.

I added all of their stuff one afternoon, mid-September in 2016. I was adding tons of crap to RYM at that point. I didn't know at the time it would become one of the remaining records of their existence.

They often get lumped in with the lo-fi hip hop community though their beats are far more tropical, happy sounding, and use samples more vibrantly. They also have no qualms about sampling anything. They've sampled everything from Dance Gavin Dance covers to adult swim themes.

When I first listened to them, I thought they were just some vaporwave outfit, but no, they are far more than that.

Reasons for Disappearance: Rapper Jakprogresso occasionally calls himself a 'recovering account-deleter'. Well if he's recovering then Sealab is still sick. The details of their split/reunion/split/reunion are not publicly known. Whether or nor they are even still together is unknown. Either way, this stuff was only available on Bandcamp and then deleted.

This EP is Jojo, an EP that was lost for a long time. It was finally found in 2023 and despite only being 5 minutes long it was a holy grail for fans of the like.

Since it's not much I've just gone ahead and included some of my favourite tapes of theirs. You will find the entire Lady Brown trilogy. Those 3 are among my favourite tapes of theirs. If you so wish to, I recommend Electric Relaxation, Wassup and No More Rappers.

Hopefully one day they come back and re-issue their tapes but only time will tell.

Rap Bastard / DJ Dog Dick - Split (2004)

Artist: Rap Bastard / DJ Dog Dick Album: Split Location: Baltimore, USA / Genres: Abstract Hip Hop, Sound Collage, Noise Year Released: 2004 Date Re-Found / Posted: 2023-08-?? (recovered by tib) Format(s) Released: Cassette Explanation: I'll admit I know very little about both artists. DJ Dog Dick, real name Max Eisenberg is a noise artist who I mostly know about from a few collabs with rapper Lil Ugly Mane. 'Rap Bastard', aka HZMT I know actually nothing of. When I added this release to my list is was mainly to illustrate just how many lost releases there is for Eisenberg. He released most of his stuff cassette only, and even though he was ahead of the curb, never got much attention cause of that. As I was writing this, I looked into HZMT / Rap Bastard / Anthony Miller and damn does he have a lot of missing and undocumented releases. He ran his own label and released almost everything exclusively on cassette. A true indie artist. Both artists really have large catalogues...

The Convulsions of Creation - Moonba Is Here (1995)

Artist: The Convulsions of Creation [Chris Shepard & Mike Mangino] Album: Moonba Is Here Location: Piscataway, USA Genres: Cassette Underground, Sound Collage, Drone, Noise Year Released: 1995-xx-xx Format(s) Released: Cassette Explanation: Atlas King is a label I have been tracking for years now. Home to the noise duo, Smersh it was active in the Cassette Underground releasing all sorts of weird tapes. This is one of them. Almost all the acts on Atlas King were just akas of Smersh but unlike the duo, the non-Smersh releases experimented with electronic, noise and other genres. The Convulsions of Creation is one such project, a side-thing by Smersh messing more with drone and sound collage. This release is okay. I'm sure someone will enjoy it more. When it comes to noise I don't like ear-splitting sounds. The first track has a few. It's this dissonant, vaguely "Eastern" sounding drone with rattles and some high-pitched sounds. The second and third track are ...

305 808 & N0ϟPΔ☾ƎΔPƎ - Sons of God (2013)

Artist: 305 808 & N0ϟPΔ☾ƎΔPƎ Album: Sons of God: The Most Outer Place Location: Miami, USA Genres: Witch House Rap, Witch House, Trillwave Year Released: 2013 Format(s) Released: Bandcamp Explanation: I'll admit. This is not my cup of tea. Not only do I know very little about these artists I know even less of who they collaborated with. I only know of this from a RYM list I saw where someone mentioned they were looking for this album. All I know about NoSpaceApe is that he was an artist active in the Witch House Rap scene that existed in the early 2010s. The one Black Kray is often considered the founder of. I know absolutely nothing of 305 808. I can't find any info either. This is a Witch House Rap album, with lots of loud distortion, slurred and incomprehensible lyrics and edgy and dark song titles and sounds. In theory I should like it but as I wrote, it's just not for me. I could just write a whole review on how much I didn't like it but ehn. I don't have...
